The Secrets Behind Our Vegan Scents

The Secrets Behind Our Vegan Scents

It’s no secret that we’re passionate about the welfare of animals. In fact, every product in our collection is 100% vegan and cruelty-free! But do you know exactly how we ensure every fragrance we offer is animal-friendly? To celebrate Vegan Month, we’re breaking down three non-vegan ingredients commonly used in beauty products and shining a spotlight on our innovative alternatives!

Musk

Musk is a heavy base note often added to perfumes to give them a woodsy, earthy element. However, this note is conventionally harvested from the glands of the male musk deer and so cannot be considered vegan. To provide our perfumes with a cozy warmth without harming deer, we either turn to a synthetic cruelty-free Musk or a vegan substitute. For instance, when formulating our casual yet chic CLEAN CLASSIC Skin, we chose to source synthetic White Musk. This is just one example of when synthetic ingredients can be better than natural ones. But in the case of CLEAN RESERVE Radiant Nectar, we chose a natural, vegan substitute for musk instead: Ambrette Seeds! Ambrette Seeds come from the ambrette or musk mallow plant, a type of hibiscus that grows in Asia and Australia. They bring a warm sensuality to this fragrance, making them the perfect vegan substitute for animal-derived musk.

Glycerin

Glycerin, the commercial name for glycerol, is an ingredient often used in scented products like soaps and shampoos to help moisturize skin. Glycerin can either come from animal fats or plant-based sources like soya and coconut oil. When it came to creating our brand new CLEAN RESERVE Kakadu Plum Brightening Deodorant, we of course chose to use 100% vegan glycerin! This means you can enjoy both soft skin and the knowledge that no animals were harmed in the making of your new bodycare favorite.

Candle Wax

As you know, the wax used to create scented candles can come from a variety of sources, some of which are vegan and some of which are not. For example, a lot of candles are made with beeswax, which many vegans choose to avoid because it’s created by bees. While the type of wax used is usually clearly labeled, sometimes it can be harder to tell whether candles are vegan. For instance, substances like stearic acid are often added to candles to change the consistency of the wax. Unless clearly labeled, it can be difficult to tell whether this ingredient is vegan or not as it can be derived from both animals and plants. The best way to be sure you’re picking a vegan-friendly home fragrance? Choose a CLEAN candle, like the irresistibly cozy CLEAN RESERVE Warm Cotton Natural Soy Blend Candle! We transparently display every ingredient used in our creations on our website, and guarantee that every one of them is vegan!
