How We Give Back
At CLEAN, the way we create our products means everything. We think our impact on the earth and communities where we source our ingredients has to be powerfully positive. To us, sustainability is more than just a trend—it’s what we work towards every day. We focus on using ingredients that are ethically harvested, without depleting natural supply.
We make every effort to use eco-conscious packaging for all of our products, whenever possible. And we consider it an honor to partner with companies that help support small farming communities around the world, whether they’re offering fair-trade prices, funding for schools or clean drinking water. Our glass bottles and containers are reusable & recyclable.
Responsibly harvested to care for the earth and our farmer partners.
Here are just some of the ways our eco-friendly partner companies help minimize our effect on the planet: our fragrance manufacturer uses solar power to generate 80% of their energy, our label suppliers use waste paper as packaging instead of plastic bubble wrap, our box supplier is a carbon-neutral print facility.
Infused with/or crafted with ethically sourced sustainable ingredients.
Our Farming Communities
The fragrances we love wouldn’t be possible without the farming families who ethically harvest our sustainable ingredients. We thoughtfully partner with organizations who give back to these communities in lasting ways, in addition to supporting their local economies. At a minimum they provide fair-trade prices, while some offer renewable farming education, funding for schools and medical dispensaries, or protection for the farmers’ agricultural lands.
Our fragrance house sources sustainable Vetiver from Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world due to geopolitical instability and exposure to natural disasters. Although Vetiver is a precious ingredient, the farming families in this community live in poverty.
A champion for positive change, the fragrance house we partner with felt socially responsible for this region and took action. In 2012, it partnered with a company to build a primary school for 300 children. It also launched critical social programs, including a mobile medical unit with a dedicated doctor. CLEAN’s continued purchase of Vetiver from this region helps support these education and health care initiatives serving the farmers. Dedicated to doing more, CLEAN RESERVE also funds a program that provides safe drinking water to the school and community.
Sustainability
Sustainable ingredients are cultivated using responsible harvesting practices to avoid depleting the planet’s natural resources. They are sourced in an ethical way that allows them to be sourced for a long time (this is the “sustained” part). This ensures a healthy earth for future generations.
