Growing up, we all learned the Three R’s—reduce, reuse, recycle. This handy phrase reinforced simple ways we could all help to protect the earth for future generations, and it’s one that we apply every day and every step of the way here at Clean Beauty Collective. Below, we’re breaking down the ways we reduce, reuse, and recycle materials in our fragrances and packaging, and how you can do the same!
Reduce
As a company committed to reducing our environmental impact, we’ve got this bit covered for you!
When it comes to sourcing ingredients for our fragrances, we strive to use sustainable ingredients that don’t deplete the earth’s natural resources. For example, our fragrance house harvests sustainable Vetiver from Haiti and has given back to the local community by building a primary school and launching a mobile medical unit. Our continued purchase of Vetiver helps support these valuable initiatives.
We also take care to minimize our footprint during the manufacturing and packaging processes. Our fragrance manufacturer uses 80% solar power, our label suppliers use waste paper as packaging instead of plastic bubble wrap, our box supplier is carbon-neutral, we use corn-derived cellophane, and we produce the caps for our CLEAN RESERVE collection with sustainable wood sourced from Spain.
Reuse
Reminiscent of sea glass, each eco-conscious votive or bottle in our CLEAN RESERVE HOME collection was designed to be reused. It was important for us to create vessels that not only looked beautiful but were able to become part of your everyday world after their original use.
Here’s how to prep your SPACE containers for a second life:
-
Natural Soy-Blend Candles: Remove the sustainable wooden top from your votive. To clean out the remaining wax, put the votive in the freezer for a few hours or until frozen. Use a butter knife to pop out the hardened, frozen wax and the bottom of the wick. Scrape out any remaining wax or residue. Wash the votive with warm soapy water.
-
Linen & Room Sprays and Liquid Reed Diffusers: Simply remove the sustainable wooden top and wash out any remaining product from the bottle with warm soapy water. Dry and you’re all set. For the diffuser, recycle the reeds like you normally would for other recyclables.
Now, let the upcycling begin! There are endless ways to repurpose these beauties, but here are our favorite below:
-
Succulent pots: Fill your candle votive half or two-thirds of the way with organic soil. Carefully remove a small succulent from its original pot and replant it in the votive. Meet your chic new plant.
-
Vases for sprigs or flowers: Snip a few stunning sprigs and artfully arrange them in any of your empty CLEAN RESERVE HOME vessels. Or, show off a few blooms in your Linen & Room Spray or Liquid Reed Diffuser bottle—both make the perfect bud vases.
-
Bathroom containers: Store cotton balls or swabs in your candle votives. We love how the wide, open design makes for easy access, while the soft, white exterior creates a spa-like feel.
-
Vanity organizers: Give your makeup brushes, eyeliners and lip pencils a chic, orderly home in your Linen & Room Spray or Liquid Reed Diffuser bottles. You’ll never hunt for your essentials again.
CLEAN tip: The foam used to package your fragrances is also reusable! It can be used to protect your bottle when traveling.
Recycle
Choosing recyclable packaging for all our products is a key part of our eco-conscious mission.
The paper and boxes we use to package your purchase are made from responsibly-sourced wood and are 100% recyclable. To recycle, simply flatten the boxes and follow your city, county, or recycling provider’s guidelines—these may include placing your paper and boxes in specific bags or bringing them to a recycling facility.
Our glass fragrance bottles are also infinitely recyclable. In fact, recycling glass can help conserve an enormous amount of natural resources; it’s estimated that for every ton of glass recycled, 1,300 pounds of sand, 410 pounds of soda ash, 380 pounds of limestone, and 160 pounds of feldspar are saved! Recycling your CLEAN bottle is easy. If you’ve got a CLEAN RESERVE bottle, you can remove the wooden cap, spray it with your favorite fragrance, and place it in your home to scent an entire room. For all our fragrances, grab a pair of pliers to help you squeeze and remove the pump. This can be placed with your other metal recycling items. Then, rinse out any remaining liquid in the bottle and follow your city’s glass recycling guidelines—these may include sorting glass from other recyclable materials like paper and cardboard.
And the cellophane you’ll find in your packaging? It’s made from corn and is completely biodegradable! Just pop it in your compost bin and let the natural recycling process take place.
