Celebrating Earth Day in Good Company

Celebrating Earth Day in Good Company

Who are you celebrating Earth Day with? We are in good company with other brands that consider it a responsibility to be conscious of our collective impact on the environment while making sure that mitigating that effect is at the center of our mission. So pull up a chair, we’ve saved you a seat at the table, as we discuss the latest and greatest in sustainable business practices. After all, we’re all in this together and learning from each other is one of the best ways to incite change.

The other invitees include: Oui the People and Blueland, invited for their innovation and commitment to being eco-conscious. Both are female-founded companies centered around specific problems such as reducing waste (and single-use plastic) in the personal care industry and in the cleaning product industry. As always at a dinner party, it’s nice to find some common ground. Thankfully, we, Clean Beauty Collective, Oui the People and Blueland, have a lot in common. We’re all committed to using recyclable and reusable packaging, making sure to keep our practices cruelty-free and Leaping Bunny Certified, and being conscious about our ingredients.

Let’s Toast to Oui the People

Karen Young, the founder and CEO of Oui the People, centers the brand around women and non-binary folks with a focus on embracing diversity and inclusivity, starting with the notion of rejecting the cultural language around shaving. Her company aims to build effective products that make us feel great about the bodies that we have rather than pursuing flawlessness with the idea that we must be perfect to be lovable.

The pièce de résistance of Oui the People is really their award-winning Single Blade Safety Razor that provides a smooth, easy and sustainable (free of plastic) shaving experience. It also comes in rose gold and would go beautifully with any bathroom aesthetic. But, they don't stop there. Oui the People’s mission is to change the amount of waste produced by the personal care industry. With a big focus on transparency, their packaging is recyclable or refillable, and their razors are made of stainless steel (also recyclable). Their bottles are made of glass (again, recyclable). Plus, their ingredients are free from parabens, synthetic fragrances, and phthalates, and they list all their ingredients on their website, even including toxicity ratings from the Environmental Working Group. Similarly to how we have an ingredients we say no to list

And now, a Toast to Blueland!

While Oui the People focuses on how we maintain our bodies, Blueland focuses on how we maintain our homes, and “keeping the planet wild” at the same time. It all started when co-founder Sarah Paiji Yoo became a mom and began seeing all the single-use plastic products that came standard with having children. So it became her mission to make it easy to be eco-friendly with innovative products in reusable packaging that are convenient, effective and affordable. They offer hand soaps, home cleaners, dish soaps, and laundry products, all made with plant-based formulas. But what makes them truly unique is their level of commitment to zero plastic and single-use items.

Blueland's reusable bottles reduce the need for single-use plastic and are shipped in recyclable cardboard. They also offer refill tablets for their cleaning products, which dissolve in water to create the cleaning solution, eliminating the need for plastic bottles for each new purchase. They're all about reducing waste and making sustainable choices easy for consumers.

But Blueland's sustainability efforts don't end there. They're certified by Cradle to Cradle, the most comprehensive environmental certification program in the world, and they're also B-Corp Certified, Climate Neutral Certified, EPA Safer Choice, MADE SAFE Certified, USDA Biopreferred certified, EWG Verified, and of course Leaping Bunny Certified (wow at those certifications!). They're also committed to using eco-ingredients, maximizing energy and water use efficiency, and even carbon-neutral shipping. Every step of their process is thought out and working towards their mission.

Now Back to Work

We love being in good company, embracing diversity and inclusivity, reducing waste, and eliminating single-use plastic. And while there’s always more work to do, it is nice to acknowledge what we have accomplished and celebrate with other brands that are making a difference for our planet. So cheers to making a positive impact on the environment, one step and one product at a time, and Happy Earth Day!
